CAREER IN PHYSIOTHERAPY

Introduction

           The use of physical methods to assist recovery of damaged tissue, especially in muscles and joints. Sports physiotherapists are specially trained to treat sports injuries. Their role is to return an exerciser to full fitness using the safest and quickest methods. Many exercisers consult physiotherapists only when they have a serious injury which is not getting better. However, most, even those with minor injuries, would benefit from early advice and treatment. Physiotherapists use various therapeutic intervention techniques to treat a patient. Some of the them are Manual Therapy, TENS (Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation used to control pain), Ultrasound Technique, Electrical Muscle Stimulation, Manipulation, Acupuncture,  Exercises , massage, hydrotherapy, etc. which are used to assist recovery of damaged tissues. Physiotherapy is also used as a prophylactic treatment of athletes, reducing their risk of sustaining sports injuries during strenuous training or competition.


Eligibility for courses in physiotherapy 
is 10+2 passed or equivalent examination with physics, chemistry, biology and English. At least 50% of marks should be secured in each of these subjects. The admission to institutes is through entrance examination. Degree level courses in physiotherapy generally range from 3 to 4 years. For a Degree Level course, the last six months involves an internship period at a hospital.
